IA invited to participate in the Paris Peace Forum

The Institute collaborated in a roundtable about cybersecurity

The InterAgency Institute took part in an expert roundtable during the 5th edition of the Paris Peace Forum, which took place in Paris earlier this month. “South-South Cooperation in Cyber Capacity Building and Good Practices” was organized by the Paris Call for Trust and Security in Cyberspace, launched at the 1st edition of the Paris Peace Forum, and of which the IA is a supporter.

The panel was part of the program under one of the 7 priorities of the annual event: “Ensuring a safer and ethical digital world”.

During the discussion, the diverse panel of experts shared insights and multisector-based understandings toward strengthening South-South Cooperation in cyber capacity-building and sharing good practices.

In her statement, IA’s researcher Ana Duarte shared lessons and expectations about the Brazilian context and emphasized the need for multistakeholder cooperation to achieve human security in its broadest sense. She said:

We believe security in cyberspace is much more than a matter of cybersecurity. Cyber capacity building is key to the development and to the protection of human rights, as guaranteed by Article 12 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.

The Paris Peace Forum was launched in 2017 as a platform to help foster cooperation. The 2022 edition of the forum, with the motto “Riding out the multicrisis”, hosted 4800 participants, among which 32 heads of state and government and leaders of international organizations at the Palais Brongniart, in Paris from 11 to 12 November.
